Empowering Communities Through Food Security

D.E.S.I. Extra Helpings Food Recovery Program

In 2016, D.E.S.I. partnered with the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank to launch an emergency food pantry, strengthening our mission to provide food security for families in need.

Today, that pantry has grown into the D.E.S.I. Food Bank, serving nearly 400 families every week in East Los Angeles and surrounding communities.

The Food Bank goes beyond food distribution—it also provides job training opportunities for D.E.S.I. clients and work experience for youth enrolled in AJCC’s Elevate Program. Through these opportunities, participants gain valuable skills while making a positive impact in their community.

To further our commitment to offering healthy and nutritious food options, D.E.S.I. partners with Food Forward to provide families with fresh produce. As a proud partner of the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, we also collect food directly from several participating grocery stores.

Distributions take place twice a week at the D.E.S.I. Headquarters in East Los Angeles.
