Clients of the Month!
Meet Sandy and PJ!
Wow – Happy March everyone! It’s been a few months since we last spoke and well this time we have some exciting items to share with you!
First, let’s get to our clients of the month, Sandy and PJ! Since we missed February, we wanted to catch you up and share a bit about Sandy and PJ. These two individuals work so hard on their goals day in and out, and we are so honored to be a part of their journey.
Sandy first began her time with DESI in 2014, in that time we have seen her blossom into the independent young woman that she is, accomplishing goals along the way and growing as an individual, and even acquiring a part-time position with the help of her educator at a local Hawaiian restaurant!
Currently, Sandy spends the majority of her sessions with her educator, Crystal. One of their primary goals is to find a new living space this year in the Los Angeles area. In the future, Sandy hopes to refine her photography skills, specifically in the area of nature photography. We are constantly on the lookout for Sandy’s dishes that she whips up on our in-house Slack channel where she frequently shows off the meals she has learned to make. She tells us that her favorite dishes to make are any based on Mexican cuisine, especially Chilaquiles!
Crystal also shared her thoughts on Sandy, noting how impressed she is by her perseverance in regard to accomplishing goals and tasks, and noted that Sandy is someone she can consider as a friend. She is proud of how responsible, independent, and reliable she is and admires her ability to not only be sympathetic but empathetic towards others. They’ve only worked together for one year, but she looks forward to spending more time with Sandy and helping her on her journey.
Next, we have Mr. Pj! This young man also joined DESI in 2014. At the time he was still in high school and with the support of his family and educators, was learning to navigate the world around him. Since then, PJ has accomplished so much; from finishing his high school programming, to completing transitional education and now choosing to volunteer multiple days of his week at the DESI Food Pantry.
In the past few months, PJ has really demonstrated how much he values his time at the DESI food bank. It’s an opportunity for him to be a part of giving back to the community, and a time for him to learn new skills, socialize with his community, and ‘get serious work done!’ – as he is so famously known for saying.
PJ is truly a beacon of positivity whenever we work together. Always willing to lend a hand, excited to meet new people, and just become a part of our community. We look forward to growing more with PJ and supporting him and his family through his journey.
DESI programs are specifically designed to be catered to each individual participant based on their own unique goals and needs. If you are interested in learning more, please don’t hesitate to get in contact with us today!
